Hello Cantors and 5pm Schola,

This Sunday is our parish feast day, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ or a shorter version, the Feast of Corpus Christi, which to me is a reflection of our Pentecost excitement!

I like Elayne Rendler's (editor at OCP) description of Pentecost...

"Words fall short to explain Pentecost.
Our imaginations are filled with images of what has
happened. Wind! Fire! Fear! Groaning! Gifts of the Spirit!
Speaking in tongues! Flowing water! Mystery! Marvels!"

So once again here we are in ordinary time, but first celebrating two wonderful solemnities that remind us that God truly is alive in us and in this world (Holy Trinity and Corpus Christi)...all we need to do is notice the marvels in the moments of our day's and respond!

This weekend is a new song called I Am the Bread of Life by Steve Angrisano (not Suzanne Toolan's version)  Please listen to it, you'll find it to be singable but will take some advance preparation.

Here is a vid of the artists who wrote it talking about how the song came about if you're interested...

I don't usually introduce new songs when I'm not at choir practice (I won't be there this Thursday), but I trust you to prepare for such an awesome ministry of servant leadership to our parish.

All you have to do is listen to it, look it over, and for the heck of it pray it please, it has beautiful text.

Attached is a pdf of the song and of the worship aid. PDFs:   I Am the Bread of LIfe        Worship Aid June 3

A few notes about the song:

1. In the refrain 1 we may end up with a quarter note pick up to each phrase rather than an eighth note; I grew a little tired of singing "I yam" quickly (though eighth notes work well with ref 2).

2. Learn both refrains, since we'll definitely be singing both together at the same time.

3. I'm not sure yet how to present the song to the community...I purposely didn't put the verse (bridge) in the worship aid since learning two refrains is plenty for a first time, but we'll be singing the verse.

4. We'll be singing it slower than the recording

5. It's a popish song so please don't get caught holding out notes longer they do on the recording

6. The form will most likely be:

ref 1

ref 2

ref 1

ref 2

bridge

ref 1

ref 2

ref 1 & 2 together (with the community singing refrain 1 which is more easily singable)

Thanks everyone, blessings always!

Joe

PS there will be a potluck at church on Thursday June 7. This weekend is the final week of choir before breaking for the summer.
